Ratchet & Clank, released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2, marks the debut of the beloved series by Insomniac Games and Sony Computer Entertainment. It is 3D Platformer & 3rd Person Shooter. The game centers on Ratchet, a humanoid creature, meeting Clank, a robot, on their home planet, Veldin. Together, they uncover Chairman Drek’s sinister plot to build a new planet at the expense of others in the Solana galaxy. With the help of the renowned hero Captain Qwark, they embark on a mission to thwart Drek’s plans.

Players engage in diverse gameplay across multiple planets, using a variety of weapons and gadgets to battle enemies and solve puzzles. Mini-games like racing and hacking add depth to the experience. Critically acclaimed for its graphics, gameplay, voice acting, soundtrack, and humor, Ratchet & Clank received some critique for its camera and the initial ease of gameplay.

Release Date: The PS3 version of Ratchet & Clank (R&C Collection) was released on June 27, 2012 in Europe,  June 28 in Australia, June 29 in the UK and August 28 in North America.

Developers: The original game was developed by Insomniac Games but the PS3 port was developed by Idol Minds.

Gameplay: In Ratchet & Clank 1, gameplay revolves around a blend of third-person shooting and platforming mechanics. Players control Ratchet, utilising an arsenal of inventive weapons and gadgets to navigate diverse environments across multiple planets within the Solana Galaxy.

Ratings: The Ratchet & Clank Collection received generally positive reviews. The majority of praise from the compilation came from the fun, original gameplay that critics felt aged well, and for the good quality upscaled graphics. The games do contain an annoying audio glitch however that has the tracks not loop properly.

Random Fact: R&C1 was originally conceived under the working title “I5,” referencing the engine being used for development at Insomniac Games. This early phase of development eventually evolved into what became the first installment of the beloved Ratchet & Clank series.
